Based near Oban and covering Argyll and the Islands is the service provided by digital land surveys.
The business has been set up by Richard Ayling who has worked in the building and construction industry for
over thirty years, over twenty of them in the Argyll area.
Richard, who has a degree in Civil Engineering, had been previously employed for many years by principle house building and
construction companies in Argyll and during this time had carried out extensive work in the following fields;
- Surveys for many local architects and consultants prior to planning or design applications.
- Setting out for houses, roads and drainage, making full use of Autocad and modern total stations.
- Title deed surveys subsequently lodged with the Scottish land registry.
- Work has been carried out to date from Campbeltown, Fort Augustus, to Stirling and the Islands
- Satisfied clients include
- Architects both based locally and those from outwith the area
- Consulting engineers again based both locally and those based outwith the area
- Several land owners with Potential Development areas
- Housing Associations & Developers
- National house builders
In order to meet the requirements of the client, substantial investment has been made in modern technology running to
the latest model of leica geosystems robotic “one man operated” total stations with the facility for RTK corrected
GPS where required.
A four wheel drive vehicle, (fully equipped with computer and associated software) is utilized to enable a complete
service to be fulfilled on the day, in the field. In addition, ground modeling software is available which allows sections and volumes to be calculated. This is particularly useful for civil earthworks and flood analysis
applications.
Another useful feature of the leica total station is that it is capable of taking reflectorless readings, this is
invaluable for locations where access is difficult. This function can also be set to automatic mode where it scans at
pre-determined spacings to designated areas, ideal for scanning building facades, quarry faces etc.
Because of the equipment, local knowledge and residence, Digital Land Surveys can carry out work to just about any scale,
both locally and over a larger area. This can range from 2 hour initial surveys, to comprehensive management of terrain
modeling for large construction or housing developments, with flexibility being the key word.
